I’m nominating my son, Erik A. Ortiz, a combat wounded army vet and purple heart recipient. He served two combat tours in
Afghanistan, 2010 with the 101st Airborne Div. in Khandahar province, 2012 with the 173rd Airborne brigade in Logar province.
In 2012 he received a head wound, when a rifle round penetrated his Kevlar helmet and stuck him just above his right ear.
As a result he has suffered minor hearing loss, loss of memory and difficulty sleeping. He is 31 years old.
